Katy Tur Calls Out House Republican For Going After Clinton’s Emails But Now Releasing Classified Intel

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 02:31 pm

MSNBC’s Katy Tur shined a light on the Republican hypocrisy of going after Hillary Clinton with a claim that she had classified intelligence on her email server, but now supporting the release of a memo that contains classified information because they are trying to protect Trump.

Video:

Transcript of the exchange between Tur and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH):

Tur: Let’s focus on the memo. Republicans spent a year going after Hillary Clinton for having classified information on her private server that could be hacked. You can’t release classified information. It’s way too sensitive. Now you think that it’s okay to release highly classified information in a memo that has to do — hold on, let me finish — that has to do with the most sensitive way this government decides who to surveil. Are you worried about showing foreign governments how the Americans go about getting FISA warrants?

Rep. Jordan: We’re always worried about that. We’re also just as wary about top people at the FBI, Andy McCabe, Lisa Paige, Peter Struck, top people who ran the Clinton investigation. And we know the fix was in on that investigation who then launched a Russia investigation. We’re also worried about top people at the FBI not doing things the way they’re supposed to.

Tur: Hillary Clinton lost the election. This is the president of the United States. Let’s put Hillary Clinton aside. Are you concerned about revealing classified information about FISA, which is the most sensitive way we collect information? The DOJ says you shouldn’t do this. They say it’s extraordinary reckless.

Jordan: The process is the committee will have a vote. If the majority says it should go public, it goes to the white house. And then they have five days.

More journalists need to be calling out this blatant Republican hypocrisy. Why was it a high crime for Hillary Clinton to possibly have classified information on her server, according to Republicans, but these same members of Congress are perfectly fine with releasing classified information if it will give them a conspiracy cover story to kill the Russia investigation?

What Republicans are doing here is a joke, and let’s hope that more journalists follow the lead of Katy Tur and highlight this hypocrisy.
