Rachel Maddow Blisters Republicans For Their Shutdown Incompetence

Rachel Maddow bluntly stated that plunging the nation into a government shutdown with no backup plan or preparations is no way to run a country.

Rachel Maddow didn’t mince words.

Maddow said, “Then over the course of today, nothing changed. So that’s how we got to this absolute brink. We’re going to stay on this, obviously, over the course of this evening. We expect the vote to be at 10:00. The Democrats are still huddling. All eyes on them at this point. They are a lot of votes short of keeping the government open, and as we reported, no plan B and no plan for what to do after the shut down goes into effect. There is not like oh, things are shutting down. Now we meet in this other context and talk about this other list of things. Everybody is just joining hands and jumping. That’s no way to run a country.”

Republicans had months to deal with all of these issues. They could have taken care of these problems at any time. Republicans in the House and Senate have shown an ability to move at lightning speed if they are trying to take away people’s healthcare or pass a secret tax cut for the wealthy and corporations, but when it comes to funding health care for poor children or keeping the Dreamers in the country, the GOP can just never seem to find the time.

It is incompetent to have a government shutdown over issues with bipartisan support, but having a shutdown with preparedness plan or a plan b is neglect of their duties and responsibilities as elected officials.

None of this had to happen, but it is going to happen, because Trump is incapable of leadership, and Republicans in Congress are consumed by dysfunction. With Democrats bailing the GOP out, we get incompetent messes like the government shutdown over nothing.

The Russians are getting their money’s worth, as Trump’s government is the worst that money can buy.
