Russia Noose Tightens As Jeff Sessions Knew About Trump Adviser’s 2016 Russia Trip

A new report raises more even more questions about Russian links to the Trump campaign during last year’s election, with CNN indicating that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was aware of a Trump aide’s trip to Russia.

According to the report, Carter Page had informed Sessions during the 2016 campaign season that he was making a trip to Russia.

More from CNN:

Former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page privately testified Thursday that he mentioned to Jeff Sessions he was traveling to Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign — as new questions emerge about the attorney general’s comments to Congress about Russia and the Trump campaign.

During more than six hours of closed-door testimony, Page said that he informed Sessions about his coming July 2016 trip to Russia, which Page told CNN was unconnected to his campaign role. Page described the conversation to CNN after he finished talking to the House intelligence committee.

Sessions’ discussion with Page will fuel further scrutiny about what the attorney general knew about connections between the Trump campaign and Russia — and communications about Russia that he did not disclose despite a persistent line of questioning in three separate hearings this year.

This new revelation comes after months of repeated claims by the attorney general that he was largely in the dark about the Trump team’s many contacts with Russia during the campaign. Those claims, of course, turned out to be completely false as Sessions and others had repeatedly communicated with Russia last year without disclosing it.

As The New York Times reported a short time ago, court documents unsealed this week after three Trump associates were charged only confirms these lies:

Standing before reporters in February, President Trump said unequivocally that he knew of nobody from his campaign who was in contact with Russians during the election. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has told the Senate the same thing.

Court documents unsealed this week cast doubt on both statements and raised the possibility that Mr. Sessions could be called back to Congress for further questioning.

The indictments of three Trump campaign associates marked a significant escalation in Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into the president’s ties to Russia. With Sessions now on the hot seat, the probe is set to reach even higher into the president’s inner circle.

Jeff Sessions didn’t just meet with the Russians himself during last year’s campaign, but he was informed about similar contacts made by others in the campaign, despite again claiming otherwise.

The longer this investigation goes on, the more the American people are learning that nothing this administration says, particularly when it comes to Russia, can be trusted.
