Trump’s pick to run the Department of Agriculture, Sam Clovis, who was also a top Trump campaign official was questioned by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in front of the Russia investigation grand jury.
NBC News reported, “Sam Clovis, the former top Trump campaign official who supervised a man now cooperating with the FBI’s Russia investigation, was questioned last week by special counsel Robert Mueller’s team and testified before the investigating grand jury, a person with first-hand knowledge of the matter told NBC News.”
The Clovis story is a perfect example of why Trump should not be allowed to make appointments while under the cloud of the Russia scandal. Donald Trump wants to put a man in charge of Department of Agriculture who just was questioned by the special counsel about his involvement in the Russia scandal. Clovis was outed as the Trump campaign official who told George Papadopoulos to make the Russia collusion meeting happen.
Trump is trying to install a compromised and corrupt cabinet to oversee the federal government. Republicans are trying to rush these nominations through because there is a sense that they are living on borrowed time. Either Republicans will lose control of Congress in 2018, or the Russia scandal will take down the Trump administration, or both.
Each new development is worse than the one that came before it for Trump. The White House is trying to wish this investigation away, but Robert Mueller is just getting started.
