Police are warning people in Florida not to shoot at Hurricane Irma because the bullets won’t make the hurricane turn around, but bullets could kill you.
After a bored and stressed 22-year-old started a Facebook event for people to sign up to shoot at the hurricane, some people took the joke seriously, which inspired law enforcement to tweet out a warning urging people not to shoot at Irma:
There is no “weak point” that a person can fire a bullet into a hurricane, and not have the bullet come back.
Anti-gun organizations also put out a warning about the dangers of shooting at hurricanes:
The lesson here is that bullets don’t stop the weather, and if you are dumb enough to try to stand your ground against a hurricane, you may end up shooting yourself. The next time somebody tries to rant about their second amendment rights, keep in mind that there is at least a 50/50 chance that the “constitutional expert” that you’re listening to might not be smart enough to know not to fire bullets into a hurricane.
