A policy bulletin from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security warned Trump months before Charlottesville about the rising threat of white supremacist violence, and the President did nothing.
Foreign Policy obtained the memo, and reported:
Even as President Donald Trump continues to resist calling out white supremacists for violence, federal law enforcement has made clear that it sees these types of domestic extremists as a severe threat. The report, dated May 10, says the FBI and DHS believe that members of the white supremacist movement “likely will continue to pose a threat of lethal violence over the next year.”
Donald Trump and his administration sat back and ignored warning that the kind of violence that happened in Charlottesville was a threat to the safety of the American people and he did nothing. Since Trump doesn’t read memos and bulletins but instead prefers to have people tell him about them, he and his administration made it easy for the white supremacists to organize and carry out their violent plans with no concern for being intercepted by federal law enforcement.
Three people are dead, and 34 more are injured because Trump and his administration chose to sit on their hands after being told about this violent threat.
As a country, we can discuss Trump’s language and his implicit support for white supremacy, but his inaction tells the whole story.
By doing nothing, three people are dead, and this White House doesn’t seem to care.
