Trump Offers Hollow And Insincere Condemnation Of Racism Then Runs Away From Reporters

President Trump finally said what he should have said two days ago, but his condemnation of racism did not include a disavowal of the support of the racists in Charlottesville, and the President fled the scene without taking questions from reporters.

Video:

While reading from his teleprompter, Trump said in part:

Nowhere in Trump’s statement was a rejection of the support of the white supremacists and neo-Nazis who claimed to be acting in his name. The President didn’t personally denounce these groups or reject their support. Instead, Trump read a prepared statement and then ran away from reporters before he could be asked any questions about his statement or his comments.

There was no heart in Trump’s statement. There was no sense of passion or personal belief. Trump was out there reading a statement, because he was getting bad press, not because he cares about racial violence or wants to separate himself from the racists.

If Trump really wanted to bring the country together under the banner of unity and love, he would the support of hate groups and disavow their actions in his name. As usual, Trump is two days with what he said, and he took no personal responsibility for courting these extremist elements during his presidential campaign.

Some cable news talking heads might be fooled, but you shouldn’t be. Trump didn’t really disavow anything. He said some words that were written for him and then ran away from reporters’ questions.

Trump mouthed some words, but he still gave the racists and extremists all the reasons in the world to love and support him.
