White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders couldn’t answer questions about what happens to transgender members of the military who are currently serving in Afghanistan because President Trump made the policy up and tweeted with no planning or real policy.

When asked about what is going to happen to the transgender members of our armed forces who are currently serving the country, Huckabee Sanders offered non-answers, “That’s something that the White House and the Department of Defense have to work out together.”
Huckabee Sanders was then asked what will happen to soldiers in places like Afghanistan. She answered that implementation of the policy would be decided by the White House and Department of Defense.
Things got even worse for Huckabee Sanders when she was pressed:
Huckabee Sanders tried and failed, to sell this as a military readiness decision. The only explanation for Trump’s decision is one that the White House doesn’t want to admit. Trump is discriminating against transgendered persons.
Watching Sarah Huckabee Sanders flail around at the press briefing, it was easy to see that there is no excuse for such an ugly and bigoted policy. Huckabee Sanders could defend it, because what Trump did is indefensible.
