Congressman introduces “COVFEFE Act” to hold Trump’s Tweets Accountable

Trump loves to use Twitter because he is allowed to say whatever dangerous and uneducated thoughts that pop into his head and spread them unfiltered throughout the world. Trump is also free to delete his tweets, but that could be coming to a sudden halt soon. Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) introduced the COVFEFE Act, the name “covfefe” obviously trolling the President’s recently deleted tweet “Despite the negative press covfefe.”

The act uses the infamous fake word as an acronym, standing for the Communications Over Various Feeds Electronically for Engagement Act. The COVFEFE act will expand the Presidential Records Act of 1978 and include social media as documental material.

“In order to maintain public trust in government, elected officials must answer for what they do and say,” Quigley said, according to his website. ” this includes 140-character tweets.” Calling his Twitter use “unprecedented,” the congressman stated that it is important to hold all of Trump’s dangerous tweets accountable for future reference. There are many people who believe that the social medias of elected officials are extremely important, and a 140 character tweet matters. Using his own words against him, Quigley quotes Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s recent statement on Trump’s Tweets: “The president is president of the United States so [his Tweets] are considered official statements by the president of the United States.”

If Trump’s Tweets are his official statements, then every Tweet matters. This bill will make sure that every tweet by the president, both deleted and not are well documented and kept for future reference.
