Rachel Maddow Conquerors Fox News To Finish #1 For Second Night In A Row

The cable news ratings dominance of Fox News is being conquered by Rachel Maddow as the MSNBC host finished first in overall viewers for the second night in a row.

Here is the ratings data via a statement to PoliticusUSA from MSNBC:

MSNBC was again the #1 network among cable news in the key A25-54 demographic during prime 8-11pm.

– MSNBC was #1 during “The Rachel Maddow Show” at 9 pm, “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” at 10 pm, “The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” at 11 pm, 12 am, and 2 am in A25-54.

– More viewers watched MSNBC than FOX News and CNN at 9 pm, 11 pm, 12 am, 1 am, and 2 am in total viewers.

– For the 2nd night in a row, “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the #1 show across all of cable with 3.1 million total viewers. “Maddow” was again the #1 show in A25-54 across all of cable news with 746,000 viewers.

– Among all television networks (cable and broadcast), “Maddow” finished as the #10 show.

As you can see, Fox News finished a respectable second, third, and fourth, but it is not number one, and Lawrence O’Donnell is steadily gaining on Fox. The days of Fox News dominating the ratings may be long gone. Fox News has demographic issues, and the firing of Bill O’Reilly, along with the departure of Megyn Kelly has hurt the network.

The other factor in play is that Maddow has been boosted by her coverage of the scandal-plagued Trump presidency, while Fox News has been saddled with a historically unpopular president who only appeals to their core audience.

Rachel Maddow’s ratings surge isn’t a fad. What we are looking at is the potentially beginning of a growing and energized left powering Rachel Maddow and MSNBC to the top.
