White House lawyers consider the possibility distant, but they are researching impeachment in case there is an effort to remove Trump from office.

Evan Perez reported on CNN, “White House lawyers have begun researching impeachment procedures. This is simply an effort to prepare for what officials still believe is a distant and unlikely possibility that the President could have to fend off attempts to remove him from office.”
The research is being described as being done out of an abundance of caution, as Trump still believes that he has the backing of Republican allies in Congress and that impeachment is not in the cards.
Barack Obama’s White House lawyers never had to research impeachment. George W. Bush’s White House lawyers never had to worry about impeachment, so the research about impeachment by Trump’s White House lawyers is definitely not normal.
This is not what presidential administrations do when everything is going fine.
Trump may not have to worry about impeachment today, but if Democrats get control of Congress, the President better get ready because if a real investigation finds impeachable offenses, impeachment won’t just be in the cards, it will be voted on in the House.
