President Donald Trump took a swing this Thursday morning at reality but missed, by a long shot.
Carefully avoiding the network that broke the story that the FBI has evidence of the Trump campaign possibly working with the Russians to bring down Hillary Clinton, Trump wrote, “Just watched the totally biased and fake news reports of the so-called Russia story on NBC and ABC. Such dishonesty!”
CNN published a scoop Wednesday evening that confirmed what Representative and Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff suggested days ago — there is more than circumstantial evidence of Trump campaign collusion with Russia to win the 2016 election.
CNN reported that US officials told them that the FBI has information that the Trump camp communicated with Russian officials “to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.”
There are only two kinds of evidence: Direct evidence and circumstantial evidence.
So when Schiff said there was more than circumstantial, “direct” is hanging there as the only option.
The evidence is leading this investigation, and it points both circumstantially – and now possibly quite directly – to collusion.
So when Donald Trump wanted to unload his anxiety and paranoia about the walls closing in on him as he watches his spurious, unfounded accusations against President Obama hoist him on his own tinfoil petard, he took it out on the two networks that did not break the story about collusion last night.
“Totally biased and fake news” — this is what Trump calls our intelligence community, the international intelligence community, fact-finders, and indeed reality itself.
Donald Trump is the victim of a world-wide conspiracy that forced him to praise Putin in public and ask Putin to hack Hillary Clinton for him in public. This same conspiracy forced Trump to accuse the former President of an illegal act, completely without evidence.
The world is cruel to Donald Trump. This is his worldview as he spends an outrageous amount of tax dollars on vacations and travel to further exploit his position for his own financial gain. Poor Donald.
These tactics have always worked for Donald Trump, so you can imagine his frustration at being held to account to reality.
When Trump has encountered things he didn’t like in the past, he put a team of his mafia style thug lawyers on it and squeezed, harassed, and threatened until he got his way. The worst that ever happened was he had to pay some money.
Never in his life as a private citizen would Donald Trump have been facing the criminally serious charge of treason that he seems likely to face eventually.

But as you can see, Donald Trump is no good at these games and this is one he has already lost for himself by attacking our intelligence community relentlessly and threatening our national security.
A strategist Trump is not. A wily, self-preserving con artist, yes. But he’s so outmatched in this game he doesn’t even know he’s outmatched. And that’s a thing that happens to people who assume they’re the smartest person in the room and don’t realize that if they’re talking to a foreign intelligence target, that conversation will be monitored.
