Sessions told Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), “Sen. Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate a time or two in that campaign, and I did not have any communications with the Russians.”
According to The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, then Sen. Sessions was lying.
In a statement, Sen. Franken responded to the new revelations, “The American people deserve to know the truth about what happened between Russia and the Trump team, and I believe we need thorough and impartial investigations to get to the bottom of it. It’s clearer than ever now that the attorney general cannot, in good faith, oversee an investigation at the Department of Justice and the FBI of the Trump-Russia connection, and he must recuse himself immediately.”
Sen. Sessions lied. It is on video for every American to see. A recusal is not enough. Attorney General Sessions must immediately resign, and a special prosecutor needs to be appointed to investigate the Trump/Russia scandal.
