John Oliver has found a way to help Donald Trump, notoriously resistant to new information, get that information. How? Well, Donald Trump’s TV habits are the stuff of legend. Single-page briefing papers with lots of pictures leave more time for TV, after all.
So John Oliver hatched the scheme to buy commercial spots on major networks, including Fox News, to air in the all-important morning period when Trump is getting gist for his daily tweets. This is a BIG deal. Much bigger than Trump’s response to almost anything.
As Oliver himself explains, because Trump gets his news from daytime television, “We’ve actually created a series of commercials in an attempt to bring him up to speed on some information he may lack.”
The commercials will air in the D.C. area on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News.
In the video below, Oliver explains the reasons for these commercials. The relevant portion begins at the 21 minute mark. Take a look:
As Vanity Fair says, “John Oliver may have found the only way to get through to Donald Trump.”
Or, as Esquire puts it, “How else is he going to learn what the nuclear triad is?” – an answer Trump famously flubbed at a presidential debate.
As Oliver says, this last is information a president must know. This is probably as good an idea as anybody has had to try to educate our learning-resistant president.
