Recount Steams Forward As Green Party Files Request In Pennsylvania

Jill Stein is following through on her promise to request recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, as the Green Party presidential candidate has filed for recounts in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania recount process is complicated. According to CBS News, “In Pennsylvania, a statewide recount can occur if at least three voters per precinct or election district submit affadavits. There were some 9,175 election districts in Pennsylvania as of June, 2015, according to Citizens for Election Integrity (CEI), a group which advocates for accuracy in elections.”

Candidates can’t directly file for a recount, so her campaign is joining an already initiated voter appeal.
Stein said in a statement, “We must recount the votes so we can build trust in our election system. We need to verify the vote in this and every election so that Americans of all parties can be sure we have a fair, secure and accurate voting system.”

Pennsylvania is where Trump has his biggest lead of 68,000 votes over Hillary Clinton. The odds of a recount changing the results in Pennsylvania are slim, but Stein was correct. Voters need to be able to trust the electoral process.

There has never been an election that raised so many doubts concerning its legitimacy in the history of the country, as 2016 has. President-elect Trump created these doubts by claiming that the election was rigged.

It is important for these concerns to be put to rest once and for all, and the best way to do that is with a hand recount in the three closest swing states.
