Green Party candidate Jill Stein explained herself in a series of tweets this morning, saying that her campaign was “not on the ballot in Nevada, Oklahoma or South Dakota, so it cannot file recount paperwork in those states,” but that her campaign’s goal was a transparent and verifiable election process in which “every vote counts.”
She said that “Healing the country is exactly what I’m going for. We cannot heal if we don’t know where we’re broken.” Many would argue that we know exactly where we’re broken, but she is right, in that whatever our suspicions, what we lack is proof. It is the recount process that will provide that.
Stein offers an FAQ here for those with questions about the process and her reasons for embarking on the recount.
