According to the 2016 National Popular Vote Tracker, Hillary Clinton’s popular vote lead over Donald Trump has now surged past 1.7 million votes.
Here is are the numbers from the 2016 National Popular Vote Tracker:
As you can see, Clinton leads Trump 63.5 million to 61.8 million. The Democratic nominee is cleaning up in the non-swing states, but her percentage is down 5.5 points from President Obama’s showing in 2012.
The more votes that Clinton piles up, the more difficult it becomes for Republicans to govern the country. The 2016 results aren’t a 2000 election situation. In 2000, Gore beat Bush by more than a half a million popular votes. It is likely that Hillary Clinton will end up beating Donald Trump by four times the 2000 popular vote margin.
No matter how Republicans try to spin it, there are more Americans who voted for Hillary Clinton than voted for Donald Trump. The President-elect may claim that he will be the president for all Americans, but the majority of Americans did not vote for him.
If people thought the country was divided during the Obama years, they haven’t seen anything yet.
The majority who didn’t support Trump are angry, and they are not going to tolerate his extremist agenda. For millions of Americans, Donald Trump may never be their president, and losing the popular vote only serves to harm his legitimacy in their eyes.
