Donald Trump couldn’t hide his joy over Newt Gingrich yelling at Megyn Kelly, even though to the rest of America, Gingrich got his butt kicked and cost Trump votes with his disgraceful performance.

Trump congratulated Gingrich for what he saw as a win against Megyn Kelly, “By the way, congratulations, Newton last night. That was an amazing interview. That was an amazing. We don’t play games, Newt. Right? We don’t play games.”
What Trump was congratulating Gingrich for was his attempt to bully Fox News’s Megyn Kelly during an interview. Gingrich did everything that Trump loves to do to women. The former Speaker of the House, blustered, bullied, condescended to, and tried to sexualize Kelly as an object.
The problem is that was what Trump viewed as a great moment didn’t come off the same way to the rest of America. Kelly cleaned Gingrich’s clock as she brought up all of the reasons why the sexual assault allegations against Trump matter. The interview was a total disaster because it probably cost Trump more votes with Republican women who were already fleeing from his campaign.
Megyn Kelly was in such command of Gingrich that she closed the segment by saying, “The polls also show that the American public is less interested in the deeds of Hillary Clinton’s husband than they are in the deeds of the man who asks us to make him the next president, Donald Trump. We’re going to have to leave it at that, and you can take your anger issues, and spend some time working on them.”
To Donald Trump, a man screaming at a woman on television equals victory. Megyn Kelly destroyed Gingrich, but all Trump’s misogynistic eyes could see was a woman being put in “her place.”
We aren’t living in the 1950s anymore, but Trump doesn’t understand this, which why he congratulated Gingrich for an interview that perfectly illustrated why he is likely headed for a crushing defeat.
