Trump Surrogate Says Women Who Receive ‘Free Contraception’ Should Not Be Able to Vote

Trump supporters and former Libertarian nominee for vice president, Wayne Allyn Root, who has led rallies for Trump in Nevada, wants to slash some voting rights for folks, including Medicaid, welfare and food stamp recipients, as well as women who receive “free contraception” under the Affordable Care Act.

It will come as no surprise that Root’s new book is entitled, “Angry White Male.” Apparently, only angry white males can save the middle class, which tells you all you need to know about Root’s worldview: His publisher says, “They’re being targeted, silenced, intimidated, persecuted — virtually wiped off the planet — in order to make guilty, politically correct white liberals feel better about themselves. It’s open season on white males,” not to mention the “unfair and unregulated policies, politically correct attitudes, and reverse racism that have recently oppressed and depressed the shrinking middle class.”

According to Miranda Blue at Right Wing Watch, this would mean cutting one out of every five voters from the rolls.

There is some irony in the fact that a Trump supporter is complaining that there are “makers and takers,” because Trump has proven he is no maker, but a very adept and persuasive taker. Root claims this arrangement (and not the Republican policies destroying the middle class) means that “the middle class is basically paying, paying, paying and the poor get everything free, and it’s a disaster.”

Take a listen courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

Root revealed that the real problem is that white male bigots like him don’t get their way, that other people having the audacity to exercise their right to vote means he can’t lord is over all the people who aren’t as white – or male – as himself:

“So if the people who payed the taxes were the only ones allowed to vote, we’d have landslide victories, but you’re allowing people to vote. This explains everything! People with conflict of interest shouldn’t be allowed to vote. If you collect welfare, you have no right to vote. The day you get off welfare, you get your voting rights back. The reality is, why are you allowed to have this conflict of interest that you vote for the politician who wants to keep your welfare checks coming and your food stamps and your aid to dependent children and your free health care and your Medicaid, your Medicare and your Social Security and everything else?”

According to his own logic, Root ought to be wailing at the real “welfare queens,” big corporations which now count as people, and 1 percenters like the Koch brothers, who leach off the rest of us. Root did have one small logic attack when he realized what he had said about people who had paid into the system having no right to vote, and added:

“Social Security should not, Medicare should not, because you paid into the system,. But all the other stuff, all the other goodies, free Obama phones, free contraception, you know what, you can get them but you shouldn’t be allowed to vote, it’s a conflict of interest. Take that away, we’d win every single election in this country.”

So the problem according to Root is not that Republican policy positions are so unpalatable, but that people who don’t approve of them, who suffer as a result of them, get to vote. You can’t get more glaringly racist than that, and you can certainly understand Root’s support for a guy who dislikes pretty much everybody but white males.

Women, as Root – and as Trump too – has made clear, are good only for procreation and as ornamentation for males. It is impossible, of course, to fathom what people like Ivanka Trump thinks about all this in her heart of hearts, but it is an odious attack on decades of progress in women’s rights and struggle for equality.

Like Trump then, “angry white man” Root wants to make America great again, but only for white males, just like in the “good old days.”
