The real campaign that Donald Trump is running can be summed up by the fact that the KKK sees inspiration in the rise of Trump’s campaign and the rhetoric that he is using.
Buried in an AP story on the Klan’s hope to rise again was a spiritual connection between Trump and the racists, “In a series of interviews with The Associated Press, Klan leaders said they feel that U.S. politics are going their way, as a nationalist, us-against-them mentality deepens across the nation. Stopping or limiting immigration — a desire of the Klan dating back to the 1920s — is more of a cause than ever. And leaders say membership has gone up at the twilight of President Barack Obama’s second term in office, though few would provide numbers.”
Trump’s vows to make America great by getting rid of immigrants and Muslims have been music to the ears of white supremacists. Trump is pandering to bigots and racists. Republicans and the media can try to frame his campaign as populism, but he is running for president on a form of racist nationalism.
Donald Trump has made it clear that his campaign isn’t about lifting up all Americans. Trump has targeted angry white Americans, and specifically he has intentionally been courting racists and bigots.
Every single Republican, who supports Trump, is supporting a candidate whose rhetoric is inspiring the KKK. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan endorsed a racist. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is supporting a racist. Endangered incumbent Republican Senators like Ron Johnson (WI), Pat Toomey (PA), and Kelly Ayotte (NH) are all supporting a racist.
Trump has generated excitement in the KKK. This fact alone should disqualify Trump from the White House and mobilize Republicans to dump him as their nominee.
The proof is on the table, and Republicans can no longer deny Trump’s racism.
