It was a charming display of admiration for the President of the United States.
President Barack Obama received huge applause at the conclusion of his speech to the Canadian legislature, accompanied by a rousing, aggressive chant of “Four More Years!”
Roberta Rampton, covering the White House for Reuters, caught the Canadian Parliament giving President Obama a standing ovation and shouting, “Four more years!’
Watch here:
Obama’s speech touched on themes of universal values, including equality for all and tolerance. The Canadians seemed very pleased with these values. Their unabashed applause for our President made me wonder just briefly if perhaps they didn’t deserve him more than we do, given the horrible treatment he’s received from Congress.
But he is ours, even if only for a few more months. We gave the world this magnificent (yes, he’s not perfect but he will go down in history as one of our best) President, and that is what gives me hope that we will not stumble and deliver Trump to the world.
Obama’s full speech can be seen here:
The Canadians know a good thing when they see it and are also very aware of the looming madness that the U.S. appears way too close to enabling.
