The media is making Trump pay for his lies. Today, CNN fact-checked Trump with an onscreen graphic that called out one of his lies as they played the video.
Video:
CNN didn’t stop at a basic boring fact check of Donald Trump’s lie that he never said he wanted Japan to have nuclear weapons. While Trump was talking, the network added this graphic below his words:
This is the type of fact-checking that should be on the screen for every single interview that Donald Trump does.
At his rally in Sacramento, CA, Trump claimed that he never said that he wanted Japan to have nuclear weapons, but that is exactly what he is said in a New York Times interview, “Well, you know, at some point, there is going to be a point at which we just can’t do this anymore. And, I know the upsides and the downsides. But right now we’re protecting, we’re basically protecting Japan, and we are, every time North Korea raises its head, you know, we get calls from Japan and we get calls from everybody else, and “Do something.” And there’ll be a point at which we’re just not going to be able to do it anymore. Now, does that mean nuclear? It could mean nuclear. It’s a very scary nuclear world. Biggest problem, to me, in the world, is nuclear, and proliferation. At the same time, you know, we’re a country that doesn’t have money.”
It is not a coincidence that the media started fact-checking Trump after he became the presumptive Republican nominee. However, the media has accelerated their fact-checking after Trump’s Tuesday press conference where he repeatedly, and in some cases, personally attacked the press.
Trump declared war on the media by questioning their honesty, and the press is pushing back by fact-checking Trump in the most visual of ways.
Since Donald Trump is obsessed with his coverage on cable news, he saw the segment, and tweeted:
The media is beginning to realize that they have nothing to fear from Trump. He is full of endless whining about fairness, but he is a toothless tiger.
The corporate press is starting not to let Trump walk all over them, and the result could mean the end of the media free ride for the presumptive Republican nominee.
