Donald Trump is Pretending His Insane Policy Proposals Never Happened

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 06:59 pm

One of the most shocking proposals – and there are too many to count – that Donald Trump has made this election season is his call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”

Not only is the idea of a religious test contrary to the Constitution, but it’s pretty unpopular outside of Trump’s core base of supporters. A poll conducted shortly after he proposed it showed Americans opposing the plan by a 2-1 margin.

Now, since Trump has won over the right-wing loony tune wing of the party and is on his way to becoming the GOP nominee, he is pretending he never called for the ban.

“It hasn’t been called for yet. Nobody’s done it,” Trump said on Wednesday of the very idea he unequivocally called for last December.

This is just one example of how the former reality show host is backing away from some of his most insane rhetoric and policy stances.

Trump also recently walked back his budget-busting $10 trillion tax plan, which would give the top o.1% of income earners an average tax cut of $1.3 million. Now, the billionaire says that maybe the wealthy should pay more.

In public, Trump continues to call for the construction of a giant wall on the southern border of the United States and for the deportation of 11 million undocumented immigrants, but in private he essentially admitted that he was just spewing hot air in order to win votes.

On abortion, the minimum wage, gun laws, health care, and more, the man just makes it up as he goes along.

That’s because, when it comes to Trump , everything is negotiable. He doesn’t really care – or know much – about policy or consistency or making America great again. He cares only about how he can advance himself, whether that’s by manipulating the law to benefit his finances or proposing ludicrous ideas to win a Republican nomination.

Trump has no core beliefs or values; he simply says what he needs to say in the moment to benefit himself.

So when general election voters signal that they are turned off by a primary season filled with inflammatory rhetoric and disturbing policy positions, Donald Trump is shamelessly pretending it all never happened.
