Pay Us Back! Republicans Have Spent $20.5 Million Of Your Money On Benghazi Probe

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 06:54 pm

The House Republican investigation into the Benghazi attacks has passed its 700th day and spent $6.5 million in taxpayer money to uncover no new evidence. It is time for Republicans to pay us back every cent that they have wasted.

According to a Friday release from the Select Committee on Benghazi Democrats:

Today marks the 700th day since the authorization of the Select Committee on Benghazi. During this time, Republicans have discovered no new evidence that contradicts the key findings of the previous bipartisan and independent investigations.

“As House Republicans drag on their taxpayer-funded partisan attacks on Secretary Clinton closer and closer to the election, their actions have shockingly become even more partisan, secretive, and dysfunctional,” said Ranking Member Elijah Cummings. “Republicans are now breaking House Rules by refusing to provide Democrats with our copies of witness interview transcripts in an attempt to prevent Democrats from publicly releasing evidence that rebuts Republican conspiracy theories and allegations.”

House Republicans are spending $8,000 a day investigating Benghazi. The State Department has spent $14 million on answering requests from Republicans that are related to the Benghazi investigations. The current House Select Committee on Benghazi has spent $6.5 million. The result of all the Republican spending binge has been that no evidence of wrongdoing has been found.

Republicans hoped to use their congressional majority’s investigative power to take down Hillary Clinton in 2016, but they have accomplished nothing but waste time and money. The media is selling voters the distraction that is the Trump presidential campaign circus while ignoring the partisan waste of tens of millions of dollars by Republicans in Congress.

Voters must do what the media won’t. It is time for the American people to demand that Republicans stop wasting your money. The money that Republicans are spending on Benghazi investigations belongs to the taxpayers. The millionaire Republicans in Congress aren’t putting up their own cash to fund the Benghazi investigations. They are making hard working Americans fund their partisan stunts.

Congressional Republicans have two choices either they can pay back the money that they have used for partisan political activities, or they can be voted out office in November.

Taxpayers deserve more than an end to the investigation. The American people deserve to get their money back.
