Bernie Sanders Gets His Groove Back With A Big Super Saturday Win In Kansas

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 01:55 pm

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders got a much-needed jolt of momentum with a big Super Saturday win in Kansas.

The win for Sen. Sanders wasn’t important for delegates, but they were vital for momentum ahead of the vital Michigan Democratic primary on Tuesday. Sanders needs to “win a night” to remind Democratic voters that the primary is not over.

Hillary Clinton’s Super Tuesday wins in big delegate states expanded her lead to the extent that there was some media discussion about the inevitability of her nomination. The talking point from the Sanders campaign is that there are a lot of big delegate states left on the board and that they have plenty of time to come back.

If Sen. Sanders is going to come back and win the nomination, he will have to win in Michigan. He will also need wins in Ohio, Florida, and New York. A big Super Saturday night will allow Sanders to continue to make the electability argument. He needs to have a strong debate on Sunday night in Flint, and the Michigan primary is as close to an early must win as there can be for the senator from Vermont.

Sanders continues to run strong in caucus states where the majority of the electorate is white. Regarding momentum, Bernie Sanders is getting his groove back, and his hope is that the Saturday surge will carry him to a surprise victory in Michigan on Tuesday.
