Trump Brings Down The Republican Party As Ted Cruz Vows Not To Shoot People

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 06:43 pm

The battle for Iowa has unveiled the Republican Party’s desperation, and you can tell because their front-runner Donald Trump is bragging about murder and thus we have other Republican candidates being asked about his comments, forcing up such replies as, “I can say I have no intention of shooting anybody in this campaign.”

Oh, yes, this is how you spell winning the White House.

2016 Republican front-runner Trump bathed in the glory of having followers so committed to him that he could shoot someone in broad daylight — aka, commit murder — and his followers would still vote for him during an Iowa campaign event, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

As if this were a good thing.

Naturally Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was asked about Donald Trump’s comments. Cruz vowed not to shoot anybody, according to CNN, “I will let Donald speak for himself. I can say I have no intention of shooting anybody in this campaign.”

So we have Republican candidates for President debating who will be shooting people during this campaign, as if this kind of rhetoric were normal and acceptable in political discourse.

Can you imagine the freakout if President Barack Obama “joked” about killing someone in the street and how his followers would still vote for him even after he committed murder? Odd, because this is exactly what Republicans have accused Obama of being — a leader followed by lemmings. We call this projection in service of deflection.

It is the Republican party that can only rope in the incredibly angry, the lost, the misinformed — the cult followers. Republicans can’t get people who care about actual issues — not manufactured conspiracies and scandals — to vote for them for good reason. See their platform.

CNN pointed out that the issue of killing people isn’t actually new to the Republican side of presidential candidates:

Trump has joked about killing people before.
Last month, he appeared to consider whether he would kill journalists, as Russian President Vladimir Putin — whom Trump defended — has been accused of doing.
“I would never kill them. I would never do that,” Trump told supporters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before reconsidering.

Meanwhile, the man who got rich via his paranoia by conning his followers knows a brother-in-arms when he sees one, and thus Glenn Beck has endorsed Ted Cruz, causing Donald Trump to call Glenn Beck a wack job. With his feet placed in the same place that caused Fox News to let him go, Beck warned his cult that if Trump wins we will be going to Hell.

The party with the big tent will not be debating murdering people. You will not hear this kind of talk from Democrats, who while so far from perfect it hurts, keep their debate deep in the policy weeds.
