Sen. Elizabeth Warren will be directly involved in shaping the policy of the Senate Democrats as she was promoted to Strategic Policy Adviser to the Senate Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
Yesterday, we reported that Sen. Harry Reid was creating a new leadership position for Sen. Warren. We now know that Warren has been elected to be the strategic policy adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. It had been reported that she will be a liaison to liberal groups, but her role will be larger than the one previously described.
The Nation reported that Warren was brought in to steer policy and communications decisions, “The source close to Reid said Warren will be a “crucial” voice and vote at the leadership table when strategic decisions are being made. It’s hard not to conclude that progressives will thus have a stronger ability to steer the party’s strategic course going forward.”
Sen. Warren confirmed that she has been promoted to Senate leadership, “Being part of leadership means I’ve got a seat at the table. It “creates an opportunity to talk, to persuade and sometimes to lead.”
The promotion does not change Warren’s regular duties as a U.S. Senator. It is a promotion that will give her more say in the policy direction and Senate Democratic communications.
Elizabeth Warren’s promotion is part of the Democratic Party’s shift leftward after suffering defeat in the midterm election. Having Warren help in shaping policy means that there will be a counterforce to right-wing ideologues like Ted Cruz who are already plotting their hostile takeover of the Senate.
Democrats are already implementing the lessons learned in their defeat. Instead of running away from the president, the party is rebuilding their united front. Instead of ignoring the fact that their supporters didn’t show up on Election Day, Democrats appear motivated to get their people enthused ahead of 2016.
The Democratic Party is listening, and they are changing for the better. Elizabeth Warren is a voice for working people, unions, and the middle class. Wall Street and the big banks should be worried because Sen. Warren is on the rise, and the Democratic message is about to get a major overhaul.
