The Republican Ruse is Over as Congressman Says It’s Time To Look At Impeaching Obama

The lid was blown off of John Boehner’s lawsuit cover story today as Republican Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said that it was time to look at impeaching President Obama.

Video:

Host Chris Wallace asked King what he would do if Obama decides to delay deportations, and Rep. King answered, “None of us want to do the thing that’s left for us as an alternative, but if the president has decided that he is simply not going to enforce any immigration law, or at least not against anybody except the felons, which essentially he has done already this is a broader group of people. I think Congress has to sit down and have a serious look at the rest of this Constitution, and that includes that i-word that we don’t want to say, and I only say now on this program, because I want to encourage the president, please don’t put America into a constitutional crisis, please don’t do that. There’s too much at stake in this country to be deciding that you can take over the Constitution and write it at will.”

Wallace asked if he was saying that impeachment was on the table. King answered, “I think that we have to sit down and take a look at that. Where we would we draw the line otherwise? If that’s not enough to bring that about, then I don’t know what would be.”

The problem with Rep. King’s claim that any executive action that President Obama takes on immigration would be an impeachable offense is that it is completely wrong. President Obama has the executive power under the constitution to implement and enforce the law. There is nothing impeachable about the president issuing a new set of guidelines for the enforcement of immigration policy.

According to The Washington Post, “Obama aides have discussed a range of options that could provide legal protections and work permits to a significant portion of the nation’s more than 11 million undocumented residents, said Democratic lawmakers and immigrant advocates who have met recently with White House officials. Ideas under consideration could include temporary relief for law-abiding undocumented immigrants who are closely related to U.S. citizens or those who have lived in the country a certain number of years — a population that advocates say could reach as high as 5 million.”

Legal protections are not the same as writing new laws. The truth is that Republicans desperately want to impeach President Obama, and their desire may be uncontrollable if the president pushes their buttons on immigration. The cat is out of the bag now. Boehner’s lawsuit is part of bigger desire to impeach the president.

Rep. Steve King confirmed what the majority of Americans have long suspected. The Republican Party won’t stop until they impeach President Obama.
