Marco Rubio Admits That He Hasn’t Read the Gun Control Bill That He Opposes

Last updated on April 16th, 2013 at 10:32 pm

On Fox News Sunday, Sen. Marco Rubio denounced the Senate’s gun control bill while admitting that he hasn’t actually read it all.

Video:

When asked by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace if his filibuster threat on background checks meant that he would also vote against the final Manchin/Toomey bill, Rubio said, “Well to be fair, I haven’t read it in its totality, but I can tell you this, I am very skeptical of any plan that deals with the Second Amendment because invariably these gun laws end up impeding on the rights of people to bear arms who are law abiding and do nothing to keep criminals from buying them. Criminals don’t care what the law is.”

Rubio also added that we shouldn’t be focused on guns. We should be focused on violence.

How in the world does a sitting United States Senator prepare for appearing on all five Sunday shows and not read the legislation that is currently being debated in place where he works?

What are taxpayers paying Rubio to do?

Instead of reading legislation, Rubio was content to mouth NRA talking points about opposing any law that infringes on the right to bear arms.

The background checks bill is available for public viewing and download. If he is too busy to acquire a paper copy, Rubio can it anytime on the Internet.

Rubio’s behavior has become par for the course. The Republican practice of rejecting bills without reading them is one of the main reasons why nothing gets done in Washington.

It is impossible to compromise when one side won’t even bother to read your proposals.

Marco Rubio is being built up as the next great GOP hope to take back the White House in 2016, but each moment on the national stage reveals that the Florida senator is just another obstructionist congressional Republican tethered to the same unpopular ideas that voters continue to reject in election after election.

If Rubio is publicly rejecting bills without reading them in the Senate, he isn’t fit to be President of the United States.
