Fox News Criticizes Rutgers For Firing Basketball Coach Who Bullied and Abused Players

Last updated on April 6th, 2013 at 12:17 pm

Rutgers University basketball coach Mike Rice was fired after video surfaced of him bullying and physically abusing his players. Fox News has responded by calling Rice’s firing a symptom of cultural free fall.

Here is the ESPN report on Rice bullying and abusing his players:

On Fox News’ The Five, Eric Bolling said,

Well, they fired him obviously because the video got to ESPN, and a lot of people saw it. This story kind of infuriates me. We’re in the midst of political correctness crushing our ability to teach kids, to discipline kids, to disagree with culture, one another, or kids. Our culture’s in decline, but this is an example of our culture in free-fall, and I’m saying because he got fired, not because of what he did. Look, there’s no question he never should have used gay slurs. That’s against all rules, but I’m not sure that’s what got him fired. I think going after one of the kids is what got him fired.

Listen. It’s time to toughen up. I talk about the wussification of America, the wussification of American men. This is it. I got a paddle in high school. I did something wrong once in gym, and they take a paddle. It’s a sawed off bat, flat on one side. They knock you in the butt, and on the back of the legs. I’ll tell you what. I never messed around in that class again…Here’s the question. Are we better off now as a nation with all the PC, all the wimpifying, all the wussification? Basically, making men chiwawas.

In the non-Fox News, reality based world the Rutgers University administration is being criticized for not immediately firing Rice after the abuse surfaced. Rutgers knew about the abuse for months, but did nothing until ESPN aired the video.

Bolling was making the age old conservative argument that things were better in the old days when men were men. The problem is that nothing in that argument is true. Men were not any tougher back when physical abuse, bullying, and gay slurs were acceptable behavior. Everything was hidden behind a phony facade.

Maybe, Bolling as a point. Back in the old days of 1995, we didn’t have Fox News. Americans were smarter about what was going on in their country. There wasn’t a news network misleading millions of people by spewing out 24 hours of daily propaganda.

The problem isn’t that people don’t want to bullied and abused by someone who has power over them. The problem is that we have men like Eric Bolling and Fox News defending racism, bullying, and abuse on a daily basis.

The problem is that Rutgers was too willing to cover up for Mike Rice, and Fox News is too eager to defend him.

If our culture is in free-fall, Fox News is one of the main reasons why.
