Member of RNC Publicly Accuses President Obama of Being a Muslim

A member of the Republican National Committee, Kim Lehman, has publicly accused the President of being a Muslim and her Party has remained mum, failing to correct her or condemn her behavior.

Ms Lehman said she was referencing a speech Obama gave in Egypt in 2009. The transcript of the speech does not support Ms Lehman’s accusation.

Jennifer Jacobs of The DesMoinesRegister reports:

“Kim Lehman of Des Moines, one of two Iowans on the Republican National Committee, began attracting national attention when she posted a Twitter message last week in response to a Politico news article. The article said that Obama – whose father was raised as a Muslim – has repeatedly found his faith questioned and has confronted the rumors head-on.

Lehman said Thursday on her Twitter page, “@politico you’re funny. They must pay you a lot to protect Obama. BTW he personally told the Muslims that he IS a Muslim. Read his lips.””

Lehman later attempted to explain herself, “I’m just going off what he said in Cairo. (The speech) just had a sense of embracing or aligning with the Muslims. I don’t know. It was unnecessary, the stuff he said. That’s the whole point. I don’t give an appearance to the Muslims that I am aligning myself with the Muslim faith. I am strictly a Christian. I believe that. I stand by that. I’ll die by that.”

One problem with Ms Lehamn’s transparent attempt to justify herself is that Obama said in Cairo that he is a Christian. Here is the exact quote from the speech, “Now part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I’m a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and at the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.”

When questioned about her accusations, Ms Lehman pulled a Republican and countered, I know you are, but what am I? Or, rather:

“Call the president. Say, ‘Are you a Christian or not?’ If I’m wrong, I’m more than happy to say, ‘Oh, I’m wrong.'”

Yes, Ms Lehman, we’ll get right on that, after we wrap up Bachmann’s investigations of who is “anti-American” and procure Sarah Palin’s graduation certification. By the way, Ms Lehman, we’re going to need your papers as well. Any and all of ’em.

Another problem with Ms Lehman’s accusation is that in America, it should not matter if the President were a Muslim.

And as a final insult to our national intelligence, Ms Lehman added:

“He’s the one that should be asked the question, ‘Look, the country’s confused, Mr. President. You went over there. We know what you said before, but things have changed. What’s your position? Are you a Christian? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven?’ Because that’s what the Christian faith believes. It’s the defining difference between Christianity and other religions.”

Yes, that’s right, Ms Lehman. That’s how we do it here in America. I mean, we WOULD, if it weren’t for that pesky Constitution thingy, wherein the founders stated that there would be no religious test for office. I know, maybe there are too many big words in there and maybe your only exposure to the Constitution is via Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, but please, do us a favor, and learn something about America before you call out your President.

And Madame, where are your manners and your respect for the office? And where are the big boys from the Republican National Committee? Have they no honor at all? No respect for this country, her laws, and their President at all? Shame on you all.
