Palin Challenges Obama On The Economy

Last updated on August 10th, 2014 at 05:29 pm

In a speech in Anchorage today, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin claimed that Obama is trying to control the American people through deficit spending. The irony here is that she ranted against deficit spending while introducing Michael Reagan, who is the son of the king of all deficit spending, former president Ronald Reagan.

According to CNN, Palin said, “We need to be aware of the creation of a fearful population, and fearful lawmakers, being led to believe that big government is the answer, to bail out the private sector, because then government gets to get in there and control it, and mark my words, this is going to be next, I fear, bail out next debt-ridden states. Then government gets to get in there and control the people.”

She continued, “Some in Washington would approach our economic woes in ways that absolutely defy Economics 101, and they fly in the face of principles, providing opportunity for industrious Americans to succeed or to fail on their own accord. Those principles it makes you wonder what the heck some in Washington are trying to accomplish here.”

She also explained why deficit spending is a bad idea, Since when can you get out of huge national debt by creating trillions of dollars of new debt? It all really is so backwards and skewed as to sound like absolute nonsense when some of this economic policy is explained.” For good measure, she also threw in a, we are fighting the terrorists there, so that we don’t have to fight them here line.

Does anyone believe that Palin knows anything about the economy? The juicy irony of it all is that she ranted against deficit spending in front of Michael Reagan. Remember that Ronald Reagan tripled the federal deficit in the 1980’s through deficit spending, caused by a combination of tax cuts and increased military spending. (This is also the same disastrous plan that was followed by George W. Bush).

Palin, a.k.a. Herbert Hoover on a snow machine, is advocating that we cut spending in a recession. This statement alone should make it clear to all that this woman is not capable of dealing with the economy. While trying to show her economic chops, all Palin did was prove that she is in way over her head when it comes to the economy. If Palin thinks she is going to win the presidency in 2012 with a deficit spending argument, she is going to be in for a big surprise.
